about

„My works are abstract imprints of thoughts, moods, memories or concerns.”

Marta Edöcs designs and creates minimalistic glass objects, wall panels and jewelry in her studio.

She transfers inspiration found in the built and natural environment as well as in her own experiences into her works by playing with light, colors and patterns. Her objects are visual imprints of thoughts, memories, or concerns – often social themes- and are characterized by a matte surface, the alternation and contrast of opal and transparent fields, which have different effect depending on light conditions. She hopes her objects become part of spaces, to radiate harmony and energy.

Making glass panels Marta is thinking in patterns, that have a 3D appearance and communicate. The technique she uses is the result of experiments, which she named “CELLelement” based on the first series she made this way, which was then followed by other series like Flow, Focus and NETwork.

During the rather labor-intensive process she is cutting, grinding elements of colored glass, fusing them in combination with glass powders in the kiln, and finally coldworking the object. During the process she is focusing inward and likes to concentrate on silence.

Her jewelry – in which the glass is complemented with silver- is worn as a wearable communication by sophisticated people striving for a unique style.

Beside creating her unique autonomous works, Marta comes up from time to time with designs for small series productions, not only for glass or jewelry, but also for women’s wear.

After learning drawing and painting at Laszlo Hefter glass artist, Sandor Farkas and Gabor Kovacs-Gombos painters, she recived an American scholarship (Participant Training Project for Europe) and she was able to study different fields of art glass in the US.

She has studied with glass artists Narcissus Quagliata, Linda Ethier, Kristina Logan, Giles Bettison, Emma Varga, Amanda Simmons, Piechna Erna and Rudi Gritsch, with jeweller Katalin Jermakov; and has been a teaching assistant for Kristina Logan’s classes at The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass before starting to teach her own technics there.

Edöcs teaches workshops internationally on kiln glass, beadmaking, and silver jewelry techniques.
